Keith Donohue - Director of Cricket, Devon County Cricket Club
The 2018 season promises to be an exciti ng ti me for Devon C.C.C. and that of minor counti es cricket in general.
The advent of a new T20 competi ti on involving coloured clothing and balls will really bring our one day cricket
into the modern era.
Without excepti on all of our players have grown up on this format and will relish the opportunity to show off
their skills and enthusiasm.
Our team has come a long way in the last few seasons, not least of all because of the undoubted talent that exists
in Devon Cricket alongside excepti onal leadership by the captain and his vice captain.
Both Josh and Matt conti nue to impress with their knowledge and desire and I believe are great models for our
young players for life in general never mind the ups and downs in competi ti ve sport.
Last season consolidated our positi on as one of the best sides in all competi ti ons and our strong performances
against eventual winners only enhanced our frustrati on at one or two off days earlier in the summer.
Oft en there are fi ne margins involved when people measure success and someti mes forget luck and ti ming play
their part. Every sports team in the land will refer to injuries and availability but in all honesty this is irrelevant, as it’s what your eleven do
on the fi eld of play on that day.
My message to our supporters and the team for that matt er is, we are ready and equipped to take that next step and to fulfi l many
ambiti ons. Luck, weather, the toss of a coin will hover around us in equal measure but given a fair wind we are
going to be worth watching during 2018.
As ever there are many people lending a hand to achieve our goals so it would be remiss of me not to thank
wholeheartedly the support and eff orts of my pal Tim Ward and Tim Western who drives the young lions
squad forward along with his dedicated team of coaches.
Roll on the summer!
Keith Donohue
