Devon Seniors Searching for Players

Devon County Seniors CC (DCSCC) are looking for new players for the 2024 season!

Having struggled at times to raise teams during the 2023 season, DCSCC are looking to bring in as many players as possible for 2024.

DCSCC Secretary, Paul Berman, has penned an open letter to encourage prospective players to join the side:

"As we get older we can either keep playing cricket or become completely disenchanted with it all. The closer to retirement the more we wonder what will fill our increased leisure time. You still feel you can compete on the cricket field but start to recognise that age is beginning to tell.

This is where  Devon County Seniors CC can provide a solution to this dilemma.

My solution, if you are 49 or older, is to attend one of our net practices on either:

Thursday
15 February 2024
6:00-8:00pm

and/or

Friday
8 March 2024
8:00-10:00pm

both at the Devon Cricket Centre, University of Exeter EX4 4QN

You can get an idea of the cricket ability of the club whilst meeting like-minded senior players, with the possible opportunity of representing your County in the various inter-county championships in the summer - an opportunity that 20 years ago hardly existed.

The club is expanding and we are always looking for more players who are available to play mainly in midweek. Home games are on some of the best grounds in Devon and similarly the away games against surrounding counties tend to be at very attractive locations.

We run two Over 50s, two Over 60s, one Over 70s and a friendly side (six sides in total).

You will be playing with age-related players who all face the same challenges - fading eye-sight, aching knees and slowing reactions. Nevertheless the cricket remains very competitive, but free from  the aggravation that can arise in Saturday League cricket.

On top of all that, the club provides a framework for new friendships, the opportunity to tour and various social activities.

We now have a very good website (www.devonseniorscricket.co.uk) that facilitates communication. Wives, partners and girlfriends are all encouraged to join in and are made very welcome.
