HRH the Duke of Gloucester paid a royal visit to Budleigh Salterton CC last week to see first-hand the positive impact the club is having in the community.

Representatives from the Devon Cricket Foundation and the ECB were in attendance for the royal visit, alongside the Lord-Lieutenant of Devon and Lord Clinton, as the Duke was given demonstrations of walking cricket, table cricket, junior and women’s cricket at The Holt. The Duke even picked up a bat to join in on the game of walking cricket.

"It was an honour to host HRH The Duke of Gloucester at the club, and true recognition, at the highest level, of all the work BSCC has done to open up cricket," said club committee member, Carolyn Roper. "It was our opportunity to showcase the range of cricket we offer, and I think we did just that today. It was an added bonus that HRH joined our enthusiastic team of walking cricketers, taking to the crease and scoring a few runs."

In a short presentation, the Duke spoke of how impressed he was at how volunteers had used the opportunity of the Lower Otter Restoration project to "create something exceptional." He added that all involved should be "very proud" of what had been achieved.
