Ruby Davis Signs First Professional Contract at Somerset

Devon's Ruby Davis has signed her first professional contract at Somerset County Cricket Club.
The 21-year-old, who joins the professional staff from the Somerset Academy, made her Somerset debut in last season’s Vitality Blast and has now signed for the 2026 season.
The right-handed top-order batter, who is a product of the Devon Cricket Performance Pathway and successfully captained Loughborough University, featured in five Blast fixtures for Somerset in 2025, scoring 45 runs.
Ruby started her cricket journey at Braunton CC before playing for North Devon CC. She worked her way through the Devon County Age Groups and was selected for Western Storm Academy before joining the Somerset Academy.
Ruby joined Devon Under 13 Girls in 2016, going on to captain the Under 18 Girls when they were crowned ECB Royal London County Cup Champions in 2022.
After signing her first professional contract, Ruby said: "I'm really excited and I'm really proud because I've put a lot of hard work into this. The team made me feel like I was a part of the squad straight away last year and experiencing the Blast for two weeks made me even more aware of how much I wanted this.
"I want to be a fearless player because I enjoy the game most when I'm being as brave as I can.
"This means so much to me. When I was younger, I watched players coming through and in the last year or so some of my friends have gone on to represent Somerset, so to be able to pull that shirt on alongside them and to go on to the field together is really special."
Somerset Head Coach, Erin Osborne added: "I know that everyone was impressed by how Ruby transitioned into the First XI environment last summer. In the short time that I've known her, she has demonstrated a drive and desire to succeed and she will give the team an additional batting option this summer.
"As a local player, she understands what it means to represent this Club and I look forward to working with her this year."
Somerset Director of Talent & Women’s Performance, Matt Drakeley added: "Ruby’s performances for the Academy have demonstrated that she is fully deserving of this opportunity. She seamlessly settled into the First Team setting last summer and we are excited to see how she continues to develop throughout the year."
