BARTON 2nd XI take on Teignmouth & Shaldon 2nd XI at Torquay Recreation Ground tomorrow night (Friday, 6pm) in the final of the Brockman Cup.

Teignmouth & Shaldon defeated Torquay & Kingskerswell and South Devon to reach the last four, where Stoke Gabriel were beaten by 29 runs.

Ross Jameson and Kai Wilkins took three wickets each for T&S, who bowled-out Stoke for 130 in reply to their own 159 for nine. Jameson (37) had earlier top scored.David Traylor (1943-2026)

Barton had a bye in the first round then won by 16 runs against Stokeinteignhead in the last eight. Harry Shelton (53no) and Arunkrishnan Radhakrishnan (73no) rattled-off 122 to win with three overs to spare.

Abbotskerswell were brutally dispatched by 10-wickets by Barton to reach the final.

Barton have an illustrious history in South Devon’s oldest evening cricket competition. They have won it nine times since its creation in 1932, most recently in 2012 when Lustleigh were the opposition.

Runners-up

Shaldon Optimists, the name Teignmouth & Shaldon used to go under, have never won the competition. They were losing finalist against Stoke Gabriel in 2011.

Prior to the match there will be a minute’s silence in memory of former Brockman Cup president Dave Traylor, who died recently aged 83.

Traylor had a lengthy playing career as a batsman between the late 1950s and early 1980s with the former Chelston club and latterly Torquay CC. He was a member of the Torquay side that won four Devon Senior League titles between 1972-1980.

Traylor played 36 Minor Counties Championship games for Devon between 1967 and 1977.
