SOUTH Dartmoor Community College in Ashburton are going for a national hat-trick this weekend with three cricket teams off to the Chance to Shine finals.

The Under-15 girls, who were national Chance to Shine champions last year, travel to Northampton looking to retain their title.

Having also won Devon and regional championships, their task is made harder by the absence of key player Olivia Dobson.

Dobson, the current Teignbridge junior sportswoman of the year, will be missing as she is competing in the national Multi-Events Athletics Finals on the same weekend.

Dobson won the English bronze medal in the pentathlon-style event in 2015.

“Unfortunately for Olivia – and the college - the cricket finals were due to take place at Lords earlier in September,” said Steve Dinnie, the director of sport at the school.

“Due to refurbishment at Lords the finals were switched to this week and that’s when the clash occurred.

“Nevertheless, she is wishing the team well. “

The Under 13 girls, who won the Devon title unbeaten, and followed up with victory at the regional finals in Bristol.

The team is going for the national title against three other regional winners in the finals day at Edgbaston.

The Under- 15 boys have reached the national finals for the first time in the South Dartmoor’s history.

Having first secured the Devon title, and then becoming regional winners by beating the Dorset Champions in a thrilling final.

They will make the long trip to Northamptonshire’s County Ground for their finals.
