Belstone one more win away from winning NDL Division One title | Heathcoat in the way of Foxes in crunch last game

North Devon

BELSTONE are closing in on the North Devon League Division One title after defeating Newton Tracey by 117 runs.

The Foxes went into the game knowing victory would almost certainly guarantee them the league title. If they defeat Heathcoat on September 4 in their final league game they are definitely champions. Defeat would hand second-placed Westleigh the crown by tenths or hundreds of an average point!

Belstone were all out for 223, thanks mainly to the 142 scored by Ryan Dennis. Ollie Symons and Connor Robinson took three wickets each for Newton Tracey.

Newton Tracey succumbed to 105 all out, thanks in the main to Harry Bushin taking four for 33. Tom Boother and Ollie Herrington had two wickets each

Westleigh needed a win over neighbours North Devon to keep their championship chances alive and achieved one by three wickets.

North Devon were indebted to Darren Butler (83) Rueben Windley (48) and Harry Nicholl (42) for reaching 249 all out.

Steffan James (4-14) starred with the ball for Westleigh. James capped a great, all-round performance, by leading the chase with 88. He shared a stand of 157 with Richard Wild (77) as Westleigh won with more than two overs to spare. Butler and Jack Moore had two wickets each.

NOMANSLAND were the big winners in Division Two when they defeated Exford by 86 runs.

Ed Carter won the toss for Nomansland and vindicated his decision to bat by hitting an unbeaten 167. His innings contained 26 fours and three sixes.

Greg Cole made 82 during a stand of 122 with Carter as the home side scored 327 for five.

William Daughtry led the Exford chase with a quickfire 93. He was supported by William Lock (29) and John Clegg (37). Ultimately Exford were all out for 241. Shaun Carter (3-31) and Freddie Barlow (3-45) both took three wickets for Nomansland.

Filleigh dismantled Axminster in the Tolchards Devon League on Saturday afternoon – and two of the demolition men were at it again 24 hours later against Ilfracombe.

Matthew Boundy  followed up his six-wicket Saturday haul by taking four for 20 as Ilfracombe were bowled out for 159 at Deer Park. Chris Ayres opened with 50 for the Brimlanders, but had little support elsewhere.

Boundy (29) then shared a 61-run opening stand with Ed Wilson, who followed his 170 on Saturday with 69 not out.

Filleigh won by five wickets, despite the efforts of Ilfracombe captain and super veteran Kevin Clarke (3-34).

HOLSWORTHY kept the pressure on Victoria Park at the top of Division Three by easing to an eight-wicket victory over visiting Barnstaple & Pilton.

Barnstaple & Pilton posted a 40-over total of 186 for five. Jamie Sutton scored an unbeaten 64 for the visitors.

Nick Ward and Jack Greening both made 68 not out as Holsworthy won with the best part of eight overs to spare.

BRATTON Fleming went through to the semi-final stage of the League Cup due to Heathcoat conceding the match
