Plymouth CC Undertake 80-mile Challenge in Memory of George Stephenson

Plymouth CC members have been completing the challenge of accumulating 80 miles in various sports to raise money for Young Lives vs Cancer in memory of George Stephenson.

George played his youth cricket at Plymouth CC and represented Devon at County Age Group Level, before going on to make his club debut in the Devon Cricket League at a young age.

"He was a huge talent and a larger-than-life character, both on and off the pitch," recalls Plymouth CC's Tom Hughes, who is one of many at the club taking part in the challenge.

"We lost George to Leukaemia in 2018 and have raised money ever since for Young Lives vs Cancer, who were a huge support to George throughout his battle. What he found most valuable was the young people he met and the sense of community created around his fellows."

Having passed what would have been George's 30th birthday, members at the club have decided to take on Young Lives vs Cancer's 80-mile challenge. According to the charity, "young cancer patients face an 80-mile round trip, on average, to get treatment. This isn't by choice."

The challenge requires each individual to complete a cumulative total of 80 miles during September. This can be from swimming, cycling, running and walking.

Those from Plymouth CC currently taking part are:

Alex Hill, Jack Hughes, Harry Stephenson, Seth Stephenson, Libby Chapman-Lane, Sam Stein, Sam Knapman, Jonny Varcoe, Richard Goldsby-West, Ted Haffenden, Chrissie Haffenden, Peter Evans, Gareth Hayward, Paul Jones, Harry Jones, The Fearon family (Jim, Vicky and Jack), The Westlake family, Sam White and Tom Hughes.

Updates and photos from the challenge can be found on the dedicated JustGiving page.
