Zach Vukusic Joins Somerset Academy

Zach Vukusic has joined Somerset Academy, becoming the second Devon player to join the boys' academy in 2025.
Zach joined the Devon Performance Pathway as an Under 10 in 2016, progressing through the pathway to captain the Under 15 Boys during the 2023 Tour of South Africa and forming part of the Under 18 Boys side that were crowned National County T20 champions in 2024.
“I feel incredibly privileged to have been invited to join the Somerset Academy," says Zach. "This opportunity wouldn’t have been possible without the outstanding guidance and support I've received from my school coaches, the dedicated coaches and managers at Exeter CC and throughout the Devon County Age Group teams over the years.
"I'm very grateful for all they’ve done to support and shape my development as a young cricketer."
Zach becomes the second Devon player to join Somerset Academy this season, with Muhammad Kaleem having joined in the winter.
"I also owe a great deal to my teammates, past and present, who have played such an important part in my cricketing journey. Their competitiveness, encouragement, and friendship have challenged me and helped me to develop both on and off the field.
"One of the highlights of my journey so far was the Devon Under 15 Boys tour to South Africa, where we shared some unforgettable experiences that I'll always carry with me."
The 17-year-old had been involved with Somerset's second XI already this season, but only formally joined the Academy after last month's National County T20 match between Devon and Somerset.
"Playing in recent Somerset 2nd XI matches, alongside and against top-level professional players, has been an eye-opening and inspiring experience. It’s given me a clear sense of the standards I need to reach. I’m determined to keep working hard, staying focused, and pushing myself to keep improving.
"I'm genuinely excited about this next chapter with the Somerset Academy and can’t wait to see where it leads."
Zach has since gone on to make his senior Devon debut, featuring in a T20 double-header against Cornwall last month at Blundell's School.
"We are delighted for Zach," said Head of Men & Boys' Pathway and Devon CCC Coach, Sandy Allen. "We maintain a strong working relationship with Somerset and we are very proud to see another player developed through our Performance Pathway joining a First Class academy."
