Brights Motors NDL – round-up: Heathcoat beat Bridestowe & Belstone by three runs in top-of-the-table clash

LEADERS Heathcoat defeated second-placed Bridestowe & Belstone by three runs in a high-scoring top-of-the-table clash in Division One of the Brights Motors North Devon League.

Heathcoat amassed 296 for five in their 40 overs. Jeremy Bedford – 91 off 56 balls – set the tone, at the top of the innings. Will Hall-Tompkin (27) and Richard Pugsley (47) were the supporting acts. 

Daniel Pugsley (54no) and Matthew Boundy (33no) added a late layer of icing with an unbeaten stand of 98.Thirty-one extras helped the cause.

Shaquan Glasgow (3-35) was the pick of the B&B bowling, taking off his 8 overs.

Glasgow, batting first wicket down for B&B led the reply with a quickfire 65, He shared a 113-run partnership with Kian Burns, who hit 86 off 58 balls.

Tallan Burns carried on where his brother left off. He took B&B to the brink by hitting 83 off 57 balls, He was caught by Harry Everett off the bowling of Matt Harrison with the score on 283.

Paul Alford and Callum Mallett took the visitors to within one hit of victory, but when Everett ran out the latter the match was all but secure'

Daniel Harrison (2-20) had the best figures for Heathcoat. Thirteen fewer wides bowled proved significant.

The result was exactly the same at Hatherleigh where visiting Westleigh list by three runs in a game reduced to 35 overs each

Clark top scored with 50, and Shreyansh Ghosh made 49, as Hatherleigh reached an all-out total of 177. Former Barnstaple & Pilton starlet Ian Wheatley, and veteran James Morris, both took three for 44 for Westleigh.

Tight Hatherleigh bowling, especially from Charlie Presswell (3-21) reduced Westleigh to 105 for six. Opener Selwyn Fisher top scored with 39 and 36 extras helped. Morris (32) and Wheatley (22no) who took their team to one hit from victory until Ruben Forester bowled Morris with one ball to go.

There was a lot less drama at Westward Ho! where a young North Devon side suffered a 142-run loss against Bideford.

Bideford’s score of 310 for six was built around a double century from Lukanyo Metu. He clouted 18 fours and 12 sixes in an unbeaten 203 off 119 balls.

Marcus Bulled (37) put on 118 for the third wicket with Metu. Mark Paul (20) added 60 more, Julian Hayter jogged along to 15 in a stand of 56 and skipper Jim Keates contributed eight not out to an unbroken partnership of 72. Nic Ollis took two for 24 for North Devon

North Devon opener Jack Moore gave it a go, hitting 44 off 29 balls. Once Moore got out, James Tyson (35)and Alex Brookes (32) helped the Instow outfit to 168 all out.

Jim Keates (5-67) took the bowling plaudits. Martin Stewart (3-15) and Oliver Keates (2-12) were in line for pats on the back.

None of the three games fixtured in Division Two were played.

Exford conceded their game at Barnstaple & Pilton, as did Holsworthy at Lynton & Lymouth. Newton Tracey and Braunton rearranged their game for September 7
