CLUBS across the Tolchards Devon Cricket League have been asked to observe a minute’s silence before Saturday’s round of matches to remember former competition chairman David Gambie, who died recently. He was 78.

Gambie had a long career as a player, notably with the long-defunct Exeter St Thomas,Exeter, Topsham St James and Devon Seniors, as well as a league umpire. Unusually, he was a life-member of both Exeter CC and St James.

When Gambie’s serious playing days were over, he threw himself into administration as a DCL committeeman, playing rules and regulations officer, disciplinary officer, secretary, chairman and latterly president.

Nick Rogers, the current chairman of the DCL, said: “David’s contribution to cricket in Devon was immense.

“I do hope all matches on Saturday will begin with a minute’s silence in memory of David, a true stalwart of cricket in Devon.”
