Tolchards DWCL 2025 Round Up | Super 8s Week 3

With the sun beating down, we saw the return of Super 8s last weekend. With over 10 games played around the county, we weren’t short of cricket on Sunday.

Super 8s Pairs

Teignmouth hosted Ottery St Mary, with Clyst St George conceding in this week’s East group fixtures. Batting first, Ottery posted 146, thanks to a strong 42 from Polly Williams, and contributions from Emma Poultney (14) and Melissa Wall (12). In reply, Teignmouth struggled to get going against a strong bowling attack, finishing on 104 for 8, falling short by 57 runs.

With Exwick conceding, it was down to Hatherleigh and Exmouth in the West. Hatherleigh batted first, putting up 137 with key contributions from Kirsty Hambley (26*) and Hazel Scrivener (11). In response, Holly Wood led the charge with 43, but Exmouth ultimately fell 17 runs short. With Exmouth and Hatherleigh on one win each, the last game on the 27th will be the finalists decider!

Super 8s Plate

Bradninch & Kentisbeare and Whimple travelled to Exmouth for a three-team clash. Exmouth opened against Bradninch, posting 84-2 with Sarah Antonio retiring on 30*. Bradninch chased it down in just nine overs, led by Fi Morgan (30*) and Emma Farley (29*).

Bradninch then faced Whimple, losing the toss and being put into bat first. Bradninch posted a score of 128-4, with Meg Acton (31*) and Caitlin Rodgers (32*) retiring. Whimple’s Holly Walsh starred with the ball, claiming a 4-wicket haul! In reply, Whimple started confidently with Michelle Madge retiring on 31*. Supported by Walsh (15) and Nat McMurren (16*), they chased down the target comfortably in 14 overs, finishing on 130-3.

In the final game, Whimple batted first against Exmouth, reaching 123 all out thanks to Sophie Bomby (30*) and M Madge (21). Despite strong efforts from Lou Timlin (30*) and Debbie Chilcott (24), Exmouth fell 14 runs short.

Across the county in the West group, Cornwood hosted Stoke Gabriel and Clyst St George. The hosts played Stoke Gabriel first, posting a score of 169, lead by Sofia Oxenham (33*) and Frankie Lee (30*). Stoke Gabriel’s bid for a win started well with two retired players, Sam Tyler (30*) and Harriet Duke (31*), but in the end they fell 61 runs short.

Stoke Gabriel then faced Clyst St George, winning the toss and batting first. Clyst St George bowled well restricted the side to just 93 runs, despite Harriet Duke’s 30* runs. Stoke Gabriel went in fighting hard, managing to secure some early wickets, but in the end Charlotte Taylor’s 31* saw the side to victory.

Finally, Cornwood took on Clyst St George, winning the toss and fielding first. Clyst started well, with C Taylor retiring on 30* runs, but struggled to find momentum again, finishing their innings on 98 runs. Despite one early wicket from M Cleveland, Cornwood guided to 100 runs in just 10 overs, led by a solid 31* from Frankie Lee.

Super 8s Trophy

With Exeter conceding, Taunton and Exmouth went head-to-head. Taunton set 139, thanks to unbeaten knocks from Niamh Wait (33*) and Lauren Morrish (30*). Exmouth lost an early wicket but chased it down in just 12 overs. Sasha Gerrick scored 32*, while Lucy Humphrey came back in after retiring scoring 51*.

Out in the West, it was Plymouth As and Bs vs visitors Hatherleigh. Plymouth B took on Hatherleigh first, bowling after losing the toss. Hatherleigh posted a strong 160, thanks to retirements from Chloe Rose (30*) and Eloise Maxa (33*), with Olivia Cooper adding a valuable 22*. In reply, Plymouth B kept calm under pressure. Despite losing five wickets, they completed the chase in just 15 overs, led by Melissa Banks (40*) and Sophie Brandom (31*).

In the second match, Hatherleigh returned to face Plymouth A. Batting first, the Plymouth side posted 138, powered by Lily Innes (32*) and Keira De Villiers (29), with Chloe Rose impressing again, this time with the ball, taking three wickets and adding a run-out. Chasing the total, Plymouth A stayed composed, with Rebekah Dennis (31*), Sophie Evans (16), and Chloe Rose (18) guiding the team home in 15 overs.
