D Division West round-up – week 17: Kenn back in relegation orbit after defeat by PCS&R | Last steers Barton to vital in over Chagford | Babbacombe resigned to drop after derby defeat

KENN dropped back into the D West bottom two when Plymouth CS&R thumped them by 96 runs.
Kenn need a win over Ivybridge 2nd XI in the final round of fixtures to get past Barton 2nd XI or Yelverton, who play each other at Cricketfield Road.
Opener Malik Wasim passed 700 league runs for the season with a top score of 77 for Civil in their total of 240. He was involved in stands that took the score to 140 for five.
Paddy Harper (29) and Nixon Jordon (22) both weighed in. Forty-three extras came in handy.
Pete Chislett (3-33) and James Gosling (2-32) bowled with control for Kenn. Ben Parry (5-38) opened his account with Wasim and ran through the bottom half of the order.
Kenn’s position was promising at 116 for three – Ben Chaloner (40) and Gosling in the runs – but deteriorated as they collapsed to 124 for eight. Gosling (40) was the third of five wickets lost for eight runs added. From there it was a short stumble to 144 all out.
Civil’s Matt Trevorrow (3-22) initiated the collapse. Julian Jordan (2-7) and Saqib Hasan (2-11) both had roles.
IVYBRIDGE 2nd XI were on the receiving end of a 179-run battering at the hands of D West champs-elect Hatherleigh 2nd XI.
Hatherleigh are guaranteed a top-two finish in the division and only need three points against third-placed Chagford this Saturday to go up as champions.
Opener Ryan Quick plundered 134 off 121 balls as Hatherleigh raced to 3-5 for eight in 45 overs.
Quick and Jack Probert (65) put on 122 for the fourth wicket. Shifting Probert did nothing to slow Hatherleigh as Adam Quick (30) joined Ryan in a stand worth 79. Rob Fishleigh (21no) was in at the end.
Keeping the runs down was a problem for Ivybridge, although Jithin Joseph (3-37) managed it and Archie McWhinnie (4-63) was compensated for some rough treatment with wickets.
Ivybridge were all out in reply for 126 with more than 12 overs unused. There were more extras (33) than any batsman made. Opener Josh Bullock (23) was the only batter with more runs than the 22 wides given away.
Fishleigh (4-34) picked up wickets regularly through the Ivybridge order.
BARTON 2nd XI are heading for a last-day showdown against Yelverton with D West survival at stake.
Yelverton (197pts) and Barton (196) are the two sides immediately ahead of Kenn (192), who occupy the second relegation place.
If Kenn defeat Ivybridge 2nd XI in their last game, whoever loses at Cricketfield Road is likely to go down.
Barton’s golden oldies Sean Needham (4-17) and Dave Cadwallader )3-16), both Premier Division cricketers in their salad days 30-plus years ago, sent Chagford spiralling to 99 all out. They lost their last six wickets for 10 runs.
Riley Calland (2-34), the third generation of his family to play for Barton, had a couple of wickets when the ball was new, including Chagford’s prolific run maker Richard Hopwood.
Jack Brijnath (27) and Jake Griffiths (28) made the only scores of note for Chagford.
Barton were indebted to a skipper’s knock of 52 from opener Adam Last for holding the chase together. He was third out on 65.
Hopwood (3-19), Stuart Lipo (2-30) and Griffiths (2-12) made Barton work for their runs. Bits and pieces got them there in the end.
MATT Rosin made an instant impact on his second-team debut for Torquay & Kingskerswell 2nd XI with four wickets in a derby win over Babbacombe.
Rosin, usually found in the third team, was called-up alongside son Seb to plug gaps in the T&K side … and he certainly did that!
Rossin senior bagged four for 35, and son Seb claimed two for 18, as Babbacombe were bowled out for 144. Tobias Delahunty (2-19) was also among the wickets.
Once openers Marcus Thompson (30) and Rob Redding (33) were out of the way, only Seb Loram hung around long.
A second-wicket partnership of 56 between Delahunty (66no) and Richad Saunter (28) pointed T&K in the right direction. After Towkir Chowdhury came and went for a cameo 11 off six balls, Mike Pugh (16no) and Delahunty steered T&K to a seven-wicket win.
Babbacombe, 19 points adrift at the bottom with 20 to play for, will have relegation confirmed once this Saturday’s game against Plymouth CS&R is out of the way.
