Orchard Manor Crowned Devon Table Cricket Champions

Six teams from across four schools were in attendance last month as Orchard Manor School played host to the 2026 Table Cricket County Finals.

Table Cricket is an adapted format of the game from the Lord's Taverners that is designed to be accessible for people with disabilities, allowing them to participate in the game we all love.

Lord's Taverners' Table Cricket competition gives young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) the chance to play cricket in a competitive environment, to be part of a team and to represent their school at a competitive level.

Multiple teams from Glendinning Academy, Honiton Community College, Newton Abbot College and Orchard Manor School, took part in the latest Devon Table Cricket County Finals, with Orchard Manor School emerging victorious ahead of last year's national runners-up, Newton Abbot College.

Speaking after leading his first Finals Day, Disability Cricket Officer Chris Brown said:

"Table Cricket Finals Day is always a great event and this year was no different. Students and teachers threw themselves into the day which was brilliant to see!

"Some players were brand new to the game, while other were seasoned veterans of the game, but all were able to access and enjoy this brilliant format of the game that we love.

"I would like to say a big thank you to all those who came on the day and an extra thank you to our hosts, Orchard Manor."

Newton Abbot College won their first ever Table Cricket County Finals.Finals Day saw Young Leaders from Newton Abbot College help run the competition, umpiring and scoring matches, marking the fourth year in a row that a participating school has helped out at County and Regional Finals.

"The Young Leaders from Newton Abbot College did a brilliant job of officiating," said Chris, "particularly remaining unbiased during the Newton Abbot College derby match!"

Orchard Manor School now progress to the Regional Finals, which will take place at the Devon Cricket Centre on 25 March.

Young Leaders from Orchard Manor School supported Finals Day for the third successive year.
