D Division West round-up – week eight: Runs and wickets for Burke (pictured) in Tavistock's win over Ipplepen | Luffman hits a ton
SKIPPER Ryan Burke helped himself to three wickets, and there were two more for Will Petford, in Tavistock 2nd XI’s 43-run win over Ipplepen 2nd XI in the D Division West.
Veteran campaigner Steve Luffman (116) plundered a century – 16 fours, two sixes, 100 deliveries – as Tavistock rocked along to 279 for four.
Opener Burke (48) put on 84 for the first wicket with Ben Evans (58), the welcomed Luffman in the middle for a stand worth exactly 80.
Luffman got as far as the final over while adding a further 113 with Marc Lewis (33).
Bowling success was thin on the ground for Pens, although Ross Kennard’s two for 51 did include bowling Luffman.
Steve Bowden led the Ipplepen reply with a patient 68 that helped them reach 164 for four. Along the way was a stand of 87 with Kennard (49).
Pens were in 11-an-over territory when Bowden fell to Burke and the asking rate proved a problem, despite. Matt Quartley’s (35) attempts to trim it down.
Burke finished with three for 43 and Petford two for 31 as Pens ran out of road on 236 for seven.
IVYBRIDGE 2nd XI crushed Yelverton by seven-wickets in a one-sided affair at Langton Park.
Rob Grove’s top score of 44 was the only knock of note in Yelverton’s total of 77 all out. Take out 21 extras and there was not a lot from the rest. Six batters failed to score a run between them.
Farzad Safi (4-26) struck for Ivybridge up top, Owen Howard (3-39) got into the early order and Dylan Squire (3-9) dealt with what was left!
Ivybridge lost wickets at 12, 57 and 59 during the 22 overs needed to wipe out the target.
Josh Bullock made 29, Sam Northmore chipped in 18 and the not-outers were Nisapthan Sarvanane and Alife Lewis-Frost on 10 and 14 respectively.
PLYMSTOCK 2nd XI defeated Plymouth Civil Service & Roborough by 64 runs to move up to second place in the D Division West behind leaders Chagford.
Yelverton were second going into the latest round of fixtures, but dropped to fifth following their hammering by Ivybridge 2nd XI.
Josh Hocken played the anchorman role for Plymstock with a sturdy 59 in their total of 185 for eight.
Hocken, in at 48 for two after the departure of Teddy Richards (24), faced 94 balls while helping the score along to 147 for five. Support came from Jason Williams (22) and 32 extras.
Dan Winsor (2-28) and Al Stewart (2-44) were the only Civil bowlers to take more than one wicket. Saqib Hasan and Malik Wasim offered few scoring opportunities.
Williams (3-44) and Matt White (2-25) posed new-ball problems for Civil that they never really recovered from.
Nuruz Zamal made 40 in a hurry, but with no one else getting to 20 the game slipped away.
There were two wickets each for Alex Chapman and Hocken as Civil faded to 121 all out in the 19th over.
CHAGFORD charge on at the top of the D Division West, where they are now 28 points clear of second-placed Plymstock 2nd XI after battering Barton 2nd XI by eight wickets.
Four wickets for Ted Gossett (4-19), and two each for Ben Lanyon and Stuart Lipo, consigned Barton to an undefendable 88 all out.
Factor out scores from Oliver Shelton (19), Tom Porter (17) and Chris Stubbs (10) did not leave much from the rest.
Barton’s young left armer Josh Parkinson did remove potential Chagford dangermen Richard Hopwood and James Fulner two balls apart spread over successive overs.
Lucas Pedrochi (56no) and Chris Jelley (21no) ensured there were no more slips.
Defeat means Barton have now spent three weeks running in the bottom two.
ABBOTSKERSWELL 2nd XI captain Aron Owen could be excused for wondering whether winning promotion was such a good thing after yet another heavy defeat.
Abbots, last season’s E West champions, are winless and 21 points adrift at the foot of the D West table following a 10-wicket thrashing by Torquay & Kingskerswell 2nd XI.
Erik Gregersen (33) and Jamie Lee (14) had the only significant scores for Abbots in a total of 89 all out.
Kiwi left-armer Tobias Delahunty led the T&K bowling effort with four wickets for three runs. Bobby Western (3-18) and the miserly Vivek Kulkarni (2-18) supported more than adequately.
Two more Westerns – dad Tim (20no) and lad Dan (69) – needed just 9.2 overs to knock-off the runs.
