EWAN Cragg and Bertie Freer had a persuasive case for joint men-of-the-match for their roles with bat and ball in Clyst St George’s three-wicket win over Seaton.

Seaton, top of the B Division table going into round 10, were bowled out for 144 with Cragg (4-43) and Freer (4-23) taking four-wickets each. Jack Dormer (45) made the only significant score in the Seaton innings.

Clyst one off the bottom on match-day morning, in all sorts of trouble at 49 for six in reply after a duffing-up by Ben Morgan (5-19). Cragg (34no) and Freer (40no) joined forces with the score on 84 for seven and put on 62 unbroken to win the match.

Clyst are still one off the bottom; Seaton are now one off the top.

Par Singh, the Clyst captain, said: “Bertie Creer and Ewan Cragg who were simply incredible. 

“Four wickets a piece and a unbroken partnership of 60-plus for the eighth-wicket to lead us home. A sensational effort from them both. 

“Some of the Seaton players – and the locals – had plenty to say during the game. It was nice to silence them at the end.

“I wish Tim (Doulton) and his team the best for the rest of the season.”

Tim Doulton, the Seaton skipper, said: “It feels like a disappointing result for us, considering we had them 49 for six.

“However, it would only take one decent partnership to chase down the total we set. 

“When four out of your top six get themselves out, you’re always going to struggle to post a challenging score. 

Credit to the lads though for not giving in and fighting till the end. The energy and fielding display was excellent and it’s something we can take forward to Stoke Gabriel this week.”
