C Division East round-up – week 10: Davey ton the highlight for Ottery in win over Sidmouth 2nd XI on the Fortfield

OTTERY St Mary defeated Sidmouth 2nd XI by 192 runs to hold on to pole position in the C Division East.

Neil Davey, the former Premier Division run getter for Bovey Tracey and Sandford, batted from start to finish for Ottery to make 135 not out.

Davey was involved in stands of 126 with Rhys Norman (51) and 113 with Tom Jeacock (57) that helped Ottery tot-up 327 for five on the Fortfield.

Bowling was a risky business for Sidmouth. Only Charles Brock an Leo Raichura avoided going to more than six an over.

Sidmouth, who were without overseas player Cameron Neame, were all out for 135 in reply.

Once they lost Will Goodall (31), Anthony Griffiths (28) and Ethan Chiappe (21) it was downhill all the way from 106 for four to 135 all out.

Jody Clements had two of the first three batters, which left Sam O’Nyons (3-14) and (David Kingham (3-37)to deal with most of the rest.

HEATHCOAT 2nd XI moved up from fourth to third on the strength of a 24-run win in a low-scoring encounter with Teignmouth & Shaldon at Hazeldown.

Ryan Bougourd, the former Devon seamer who has re-joined Teignmouth & Shaldon from Bovey Tracey, took five for 11 from nine overs as Heathcoat were sent on their way for 116.

At one stage Bougourd took five wickets for one-run conceded during six overs bowled!

Heathcoat opener Will Edwards made 20, tail-ender Freddie Walker made 23; no one else got past 11. Twenty-one extras helped.

Teignmouth & Shaldon were all-out for 92 in response – and Oscar McCallum scored 51 of them!

Matt Hodson was the man of the moment for Heathcoat with six for 16. Lee Dixon (3-29) did most of the remaining damage.

SHOBROOKE Park stay right behind Ottery St Mary in the C East promotion face thanks to a four-run win over lowly Exeter 2nd XI.

Opener Andy Steer top-scored for Shobrooke with 61 in their total of 207 all out. He was third out on 131.

Steer put on 50 up top with Chris Simpson (15) and 32 with Aussie Rob Ewing (32) for the third wicket.

Best of the chip-ins, other than 25 wides, came from Phil Anning (16) and Josh Reeve (17).

Exeter shared the wickets around with two each for Aashay Dube, Will Furniss and Seb Looker.

Elle Golsworthy, fresh from scoring an unbeaten double-ton for Exeter Women against their Exmouth counterparts, led the County Ground outfit’s reply with a 10-boundary 59. She went in at 24 for one and was involved in stands that added 128.

Despite interruptions from Jonty Brett (3-35), Howell Brandwood, Simpson and Anning, Exeter had victory in their sights at 202 for with seven balls to go. Then Jarman was bowled by Ewing for 17 and the balance shifted.

Brett needed four balls to break the last-wicket pairing and bowl out Exeter for 203 with two balls to go.

EXMOUTH 2nd XI suffered a 143-run reversal in the basement battle with Upottery.

A stand of 100 between Ben Kidson (58) and James Mitcham (39) was the cornerstone of Upottery’s all-out total of 223. Ryan Botley (36) and Adam Pulman (30) chipped in down the order.

Miles Olczak (3-22) and Rahmatullah Mohammadi (2-35) hogged the bowling limelight for Exmouth.

Exmouth were all out for 80 with no one making more than captain Sam Radford (15). Losing six wickets for 21 runs getting from 44 to 65 was their undoing.

Pulman (4-13) built on good work from Kidson (2-19), Connor McCoy (2-15) and Matt Smith (2-25) to send Exmouth on their way.
