D Division West round-up – week 10: Abbots win again as revival gathers pace – with match images | Torquay & Kingskerswell still in second place
ABBOTSKERSWELL 2nd XI’s revival continued with a 76-run win over fellow strugglers Tavistock 2ndXI.
That’s two wins on the spin for D West tail-enders Abbots, who have trimmed the distance between themselves and the relegation low-tide mark to two points.
Bowling Abbots out for 165 in the last of their 45 overs might have been the platform Tavvy needed to win for the first time in three starts.
Tavistock’s reply was in trouble from the get-go – openers Ben Evans and Will Chappell were both out for ducks – and it was downhill all the way after that to 89 all out.
Tavistock now share second-from bottom spot with Barton 2nd XI in the table. Table-proppers Abbots are a point below.
Erik Gregerson (29), Charlie Thomas (24) and Jamie Lee (25) all got into the 20s for Abbots, before Evans (3-21) or Basil Kuriakose (4-24) sent them back.
Mark Bryant (35) and Alex Troake (16) nudged the score along in the final overs.
Tavistock briefly recovered from their shambolic start via Steve Luffman (15), Marc Lewis (24) and Marc Webber (13).
Will Small (4-22) started the slide that sent Tavistock down the slippery slope to an early finish.
TORQUAY & Kingskerswell 2nd XI overcame Plymouth CS&R by five wickets to keep a tight grip on second place behind leaders Chagford.
Malik Wasim top scored with 42 for Civil in a below-par total of 141 all out. Opener Saqib Hasan with 21 was best of the rest.
Wickets were shared around with two each for Ant Nadar, Ethan Ebrahim and Tobias Delahunty.
Openers Tom Lillywhite (51) and Bobby Western (15) got the Seasiders up and running before Hasan (3-27) slowed them down.
Delahunty and Ebrahim with a pair of 29s steered Torquay & Kingskerswell to the brink of victory.
BARTON 2nd XI hammered Ipplepen 2nd XI by eight-wickets to move within sight of safety in the D Division West.
Although Barton are still in the bottom two, they are level on points with Tavistock 2nd XI, who are only above them on bonus points. And Ipplepen, just three points ahead, have been dragged into the mix by this result.
Only three batters reached double figures for Ipplepen in a modest total of 124 all out: opener Hugo Denman (23), old warhorse Marcus Green (28no) and last man Harry Lewis (18).
There were four Pens’ wickets for Mustafizur Rahman (4-26) and two each for Callum Crocker and Harrison Weaver.
Barton were 29 for two when Shaun Needham strode out to hook-up with younger brother Matt out in the middle.

IVYBRIDGE 2nd XI became the latest team consigned to defeat by D West leaders Chagford, who handed them a 93-run drubbing.
Opener Lucas Pedrochi (96) and Chris Jelley (50) took Chagford to 146 for two, when the latter was dismissed by Harvey Johnson (3-48).
Ted Gossett (39) wrangled 79 more runs out the remaining batting before he was the last man out in a total of 225. Arthur Johnson mopped-up two wickets at the end.
Ivybridge opener Harvey Johnson (31) was the lone top-seven batter to make it into double figures as Stuart Lipo (3-21) and Jake Griffiths (2-31) scythed down the top order.
Chris Greenhouse (25) and Nisapthan Saravanane (21no) resisted at the end, but too late t alter the outcome.
Jelley (2-4) pried out the stragglers as Ivbridge were dismissed for 132.
YELVERTON ended a three-game wait for a win when they defeated Plymstock by five wickets.
Josh Hocken found some balls to hit on his way to an unbeaten century (110) in Plymstock’s total of 219 for four.
Teddy Richards (65) was 22 yards away from Hocken during a stand of 129 for the third wicket that ended when he was run-out.
Michael Marais (2.56) and Alistair Horler (3.22) did a good job for Yelverton keeping them runs down.
Yelverton’s successful run chase set off with a 115-run stand for the second wicket between skipper David Ackford (29) and Rob Grove (84).
Losing three wickets for one run proved a temporary setback as a stand of 70 between Geoff Brain (21) and Mike Lemmings got Yelverton back on course.
Lemmings reached 56 not out when he won the game by biffing Jason Williams for four.
