Thors end seven-game wait for a win with derby day triumph | 'We’re now within 20 points of a number of clubs, but need to make sure we keep it going' – Jake Choules

THORVERTON sent a message to the rest of the A Division that they are very much alive and kicking with a seven-wicket win over Cullompton on their new home at Kingsford Park.

A run of seven games without a win had turned Thorverton into permanent tenants of last place in the table – and they remain there now.

This win dragged Cullompton down to second from bottom – and within overtaking range – and Bovey Tracey’s defeat by Torquay & Kingskerswell brought them in range too.

Dan King (47) and captain Brendon Parr (38) had the only scores above 20 for Cullompton in a modest tally of 161 all out. They put on 57 for the fourth wicket.

Thorverton seamer George Daldorph celebrated his Devon call-up with three wickets – and there were three more for captain Jake Choules.

Thorverton lost wickets at 21, 78 and finally 97 on a well-paced cruise to victory. Opener Dan Robbins made all of the first 21 runs in the book before Jason Parr bowled him.

Luke Vukusic (46) and Lihan Laubscher (17) kept the chase going then Shane Yelverton (48no) and Harry Choules (22no) finished it off.

Thorverton skipper Jake Choules said it was a first step in the right direction.

“We’ve been playing some good stuff for the last month or so, so to keep heads up and get the win was really pleasing” said Choules.

“We’re now within 20 points of a number of clubs, but need to make sure we keep it going.”

On the mechanics of a ’much-needed win’ the captain said: “Always helpful to get off to a good start in a below-par chase.

“We’ve talked about batting in partnerships, so great to see that from the top five, including Lihan at just 17 years old.”
