C Division East round-up – week 11: Radford and Gingell secure first win for Exmouth | Shobrooke go top despite defeat
SHOBROOKE Park are back on top of the C Division East despite losing by 21 runs to Upottery.
Upottery made 232 for eight in a 45-over game, which was too many for Shobrooke, who were bowled out for 211.
Shobrooke’s were sevewn points beind Ottery going into the latest round of fixtures.
The only reason Ottery are behind the is it was their turn for a bye week in a division with nine teams.Bonus points did the trick for Shobrooke.
Opener Matt Broom (60) was involved in stand that took Upottery to 190 for four. Jack Larcombe (25), Ben Kidson (23) and Connor McCoy (46) all played a part.
Andrew Codling (4-37) was the pick of Shobrooke’s bowlers. Howell Brandwood (2-26) was the meanest.
Shobrooke got to 124 for three with Rob Ewing (57) and Henry Field (31) going well, only to slow up to 157 for seven. Rob Machin (4-44) did the damage.
Joe Harris (28) was the lone batter to make much progress as the chase fizzled out.
TEIGNMOUTH & Shaldon competed a C East double over Sandford 2nd XI when they defeated them by 69 runs at Creedy Park.
Sandford came unstuck by a 64-run margin when the sides met first time round back in May at Hazeldown.
Runs were scattered all the way through the T&DS order towards a total of 296 for eight.
Harrison Linnitt top scored with 50, Todd Ballman made 43, Morgan Couch had 48 and Carl Woolnough topped it off with 32 off 24 balls at the end. Will Hopkins (3-41) took the bowling plaudits for Sandford.
Sandford got as far as 232 for eight before they ran out of batting time.
Jon James (36) and Shaun Hawkins (32) got top-five runs then Andy Fry (64) prodded the middle-order into life from one end.
What Sandford needed was more than Jonny Handley’s 32 not out going in at number 10 to make the chase succeed.
Teignmouth & Shaldon’s Liam Gardner took three for 33 against his former Sandford team-mates.
EXETER 2nd XI beat Heathcoat 2nd XI by one wicket in a C East encounter that could not have been much closer.
Heathcoat, defending a total of 233 all out, took Exeter to the penultimate ball of the game before they were beaten.
Opener Tom Lock batted 42 overs for Heathcoat making a top score of 86. He was ninth man out. Lee Dixon (25) and Fergus Anderson (42) both chipped in.
Seb Looker (4-45) was Exeter’s leading wicket taker. Alex Jarman and Adam Fradgley took two poles each.
Exeter did not look in great shape at 83 for five with Aaron Lawrence (30) and Aashay Dube (23) both casualties.
Sean Langford (64) and Will Furniss (48) batted Exeter back into the game with a stand of 105 for the eighth wicket. Jarman and Harrson Gribble scrambled the seven needed from the last over to win it.
AT last! Exmouth 2nd XI are off the mark, but not off the bottom of the C Division East, after a 51-run derby win over Sidmouth 2nd XI.
Jack Dawson got Exmouth off to a steady start with 31, then Sam Radford (81) and Will Gingell (62no) propelled the total towards 258 for four. Radford and Gingell put on 127 for the fourth wicket in the stand of the match.
Cheap wickets were hard to conjure-up in batsman-friendly conditions, which made Sidmouth’s Cameron Neame’s figures of two for 28 off nine all the more impressive.
Sidmouth’s reply was potentially going nowhere at 68 for four with Nick Mansfield (36) among the departed.
Ethan Chiappe (62) then Hugo Brock (51) pepped things up, but maintaining the asking rate was a problem.
By the time Brock was ninth out on 199 the game had long gone. Neame was the last man out with the total on 207.
There were two wickets each for Exmouth bowlers Assad Ullah, Rahmatullah Mohammadi, Andrew Murray and Geoff Coombe.
Exmouth are still on the bottom, where they need to find 19 points to get ahead of Exeter and out of the drop spots.
