Hatherleigh snatch T20 crown off holders | Quick (pictured) hits 134 in semi-final
HATHERLEIGH defeated defending champions Bideford by seven wickets to carry off the Chapter One North Devon T20 Cup in front of their own supporters.
Bideford beat Holsworthy by 125 runs in the morning semi-final to book their return ticket to the final. Hatherleight sprung an eight-wicket defeat on North Devon in the other semi.
The final was a one-sided affair after Bideford were bowled out in it for 108 in the 19th over.
James Hayter top scored with 38, but his team-mates struggled against the Hatherleigh bowling and fielding. Jasper Presswell took three or 14. Twin brother Charlie, Emmerson Wood and Mark Lake all grabbed two wickets.
Aiden Spinney joined in the catch-of-the day competition, when he took a ‘steepler’ in front of the pavilion.
Hatherleigh got the runs with nearly seven overs in hand. In-form Ryan Quick carried on with 45 until he was bowled by Jack Ford. He found support from Wood, who was there at the end on 45 not out.
Bideford’s path to the final always looked secure after they seized on Holsworthy’s offer to bat first in the morning semi-final and raced to an impressive 226 for five.
This was mainly due to a big partnership between James Hayter, and the in-form Josh King. Hayter hit 79 off 46 balls, King 95 off 48. Matthew Mansbridge (3-31) was the pick of the Holsworthy bowlers.
Seven overs into the chase Holsworthy were 60 without loss thanks to Jack Greening (44), and Liam Brend (32). However, Steve Bond (4-19) and Elliot Currie applied the squeeze. Ford cleaned up with three for seven as Holsworthy were all out for 121.
The second semi-final between Hatherleigh and North Devon was the match of the day, thanks to a stunning innings from Hatherleigh’s Ryan Quick
North Devon batted first and scored 178 for eight. Tom Ansell top scored with 52, and there was support from Jack Whittaker (38) and Ed Wilson (32).
The Presswell twins, Jasper and Charlie, together with Greg Solkin took a of wickets each. Hatherleigh’s fielding was excellent. Charlie Presswell delighted the crowd with a boundary catch to remember
The chase was dominated by Ryan Quick. He opened, and was there at the end with 134 not out. He faced 76 balls, hit 10 sixes, and nine fours in a brutal display of hitting. Quick shared an opening partnership of 124 with Rob Cockwill (25). North Devon skipper Jack Moore tried seven bowlers to no avail.

FINALS day in the plate competition was played out at Westleigh, where Barnstaple & Pilton were the eventual winners after a three-game tournament.

Braunton 137- 6 (J Franklin 37, R Pearson 3-18), Westleigh 99 (P Shiller 23, A Alosious 3-19 J Franklin 3-15).

BRIDESTOWE & Belstone and Heathcoat produced that cricket rarity the tie in their meeting at Knightshayes.
Heathcoat batted first and were all out for 277. That was quite a recovery from 107 for six in the 16th over.
James Pugsley top scored with 68, and there were chip-ins from Michael Humphreys (37), Daniel Pugsley (33) and Matt Harrison (32). Forty-eight extras helped the cause. Harry Bushin )3-43) was the pick of the 10 bowlers employed by Bridestowe & Belstone.
The Bridestowe & Belstone chase was dominated by Shaquan Glasgow. He hit 155 off 114 deliveries, bludgeoning 20 fours and five sixes. Glasgow shared a second-wicket partnership of 149 with skipper Richard Drake, who scored a more sedate 53. However, he fell victim to Dan Pugsley with the score on 264.
That left Bushin and Abigail Drake at the crease. Going to the last, over bowled by Pugsley, by Bridestowe & Belstone needed 13. A wide then a six from Bushin helped get it down to needing two to win off the last ball. they could only manage one, to tie the match. Fifteen points each.
