Tolchards DWCL 2025 Round Up | Week 3

After a break last weekend, here is what happened on the weekend of the 17 May in the Tolchards Devon Women's Cricket League, which didn't disappoint with two five-wicket hauls, a century, five half-centuries, and some big wins lighting up the action.
Division One
Cornwood delivered a commanding all-round performance in their game against Taunton Deane. The side were put into bat first, racking up an immense 216 for 6. Evie Privett led the charge smashing 63 off 49 balls, later followed by Shini Al Khalid's 46 runs. Tauton Deane made a promising start thanks to a solid knock of 48 from opener Pippa Stephens. But once she departed, Taunton Deane struggled to get going again, finishing 92 all out off 23.5 overs.
The final Division One game of the week saw North Devon take on Exeter. After winning the toss, North Devon posted a solid total of 176 all out from their 30 overs, with captain Lauren Bowden leading the way with a composed 43 and steady contributions from the rest of the lineup. Exeter’s Frances Dennehy made a big impact with the ball, claiming a superb five-wicket haul. In response, Exeter got off to a strong start thanks to Jessica Breban’s impressive 62. However, after her dismissal by Maddy L, the chase began to falter, leaving Exeter 22 runs short at the end.
Paignton made the trip to Plymouth on Sunday, managing to field a team despite missing five players due to county commitments. Plymouth batted first, scoring 309 runs, led by Melissa Banks with 153 runs and Keira De Villiers with 74*.
Division Two
Hatherleigh hosted Exmouth XI on Sunday and were put in to bat first. Led by a commanding 66* from Chloe Dennis, the home side posted an impressive 179, despite some tight spells from the Exmouth bowlers. In reply, Exmouth made a solid start through Sasha Gerrick and Jasmyne Watson, but Hatherleigh’s bowlers stepped up the pressure and bowled them out for 92, sealing a convincing 87-run win.
Elsewhere, Plympton were set to face Bovey, but the home side could not raise a side, conceding the game and handing Bovey an easy 20 points.
Division Three
There was just one game in Division Three this week, with Bradninch & Kentisbeare taking on Holsworthy. Colette Bamber stole the show with a brilliant five-wicket haul, helping bowl Holsworthy out for 86. Despite Holsworthy rotating six bowlers, Yvonne Jackson anchored the chase with an unbeaten 37*, guiding Bradninch to their first win of the season.
"What was arguably the most powerful all-round display from the Ladies for some time kept another excellent Kensham Park turnout enthralled", reflected Bradninch.
After some well-deserved rest, we see the Super8s set to roar back to life this week.
