Although fixtures were limited this week, the Tolchards Devon Women's cricket league still delivered plenty of action at the crease, with five players reaching half-centuries. Read on to discover what happened this week.

Division One

North Devon continued their campaign to stay top of the table, staying undefeated with five wins under their belt. They took on Taunton Deane, winning the toss and putting themselves into bat. The side scored an unbeaten 309, with Annie Townsend (79), Megan Snape (46), and Rose Ball (59*) scoring the majority of the runs. Taunton struggled to find momentum, despite Ruth Craven’s 30 runs, and the side found themselves unable to chase the score and win a game yet this season.

Cornwood travelled to Plymouth, looking to get another win this season. Cornwood won the toss and elected to field first. A quick 92* from Plymouth’s Claire Varcoe, Beth Hall’s 56, and 47 runs each from Melissa Banks and Iona Pennington saw the side put up a total of 274 to chase. Cornwood held on for 31 overs, but despite their best efforts, they fell 201 runs short at the end.

Division Two

No games were played in Division Two this week, with both games being asked to be rearranged for later in the season.

Division Three

Only one game in division three this week, Chagford took on Clyst St George. Chagford lost the toss and were put into bat first. The side got off to a good start with Grace Lewis scoring 43 runs. However, a run out from Ava Donald ended her half century chances and run flow. Chagford finished on 86 all out, with four wickets for Mia Jones. Clyst St George ended the game without loss of wicket, Clare Pym (53*) and Alyssia Hayes (23*), brought the victory home, making it five from five for Clyst St George and sitting comfortably at the top of the table!

This coming weekend, we see more 35-over league action from the Devon Women’s League.
