The 35-over league wraps up for a week’s break ahead of the Super 8s return next week. Just four games played this weekend across the three divisions, here’s how the teams fared in the latest round of action.
Division One
Paignton travelled to Cornwood and were sent in to bat after losing the toss. They posted a solid 198 for 6, led by a composed 69 from Ella Gill, with valuable support from Naomi Hancock (29) and Charlotte Massey (31). In reply, Cornwood struggled to build momentum. Despite a determined 21 from Evie Privett, no other batter reached double figures, and the hosts were bowled out for 69, falling 129 runs short at the end.
North Devon welcomed Exeter CC, aiming to extend their unbeaten run. After losing the toss, the hosts were put in to bat and got off to a solid start with contributions from Kate Williams (38), Milly Squire (23), and Regina Lilii (17). However, the momentum faded in the later stages, and they were bowled out for 146 in 34 overs. Exeter's bowling attack was led by Jemima Mitchell, who claimed an impressive four-wicket haul. In response, despite the early dismissal of Rose Batty, Exeter chased down the target confidently, with Elle Golsworthy (56), Jessica Breban (25), and Georgia Read (44*) guiding them to a well-earned win, handing North Devon their first defeat of the season.
Division Two
Division Two saw just one fixture this week, with Bovey Tracey hosting Exeter 2s. After winning the toss, the home side chose to bat first and posted a strong total of 250 for 9. Captain Monica Gair led the way with 64, supported by Holly Evans (23) and Katie Southcott (20). Exeter made use of all their players on the pitch, with nine bowlers used for their bowling attack, Lottie Wood claiming three wickets. In reply, Exeter chased the target with determination, led by an unbeaten 93* from Lottie Wood, narrowly missing out on a century. She was well supported by Grace Golsworthy (79), Elusha Gribble (22), and Iris Woodward (27*), as Exeter reached the target with three overs to spare, claiming their first victory in the league.
Division Three
Holsworthy hosted Bradninch & Kentisbeare, winning the toss and opting to field first. Bradninch posted a commanding 157 for 2, setting a strong platform with the bat. In response, Holsworthy struggled to get going and were bowled out for just 57. Meg Acton, Bradninch’s captain, commented: "It was a collective team effort from Bradninch, credit going to all involved. We kept our heads down, played our own game, and came out with the result we deserved. We’ve still got plenty to work on, so we’ll keep working hard and enjoying our own game!"
Next week, the Super 8s competition is back!
