10 October is World Mental Health Day, but mental health is important every day. Together, we can make sure everyone sees it that way.
This summer, we encouraged clubs across the county to start conversations that truly matter through our Start the Conversation campaign. The campaign followed up from our Mental Wellbeing Webinar in April, where we were joined by Mark Boyns of Opening Up Cricket and Marcus West from Ashburton CC.
One of the biggest takeaways from the webinar was the power that simply raising the topic of wellbeing at a club committee meeting can have to open up a conversation on the topic of mental wellbeing.
"It was amazing the conversation that followed," said Marcus of the first time mental wellbeing was raised at Ashburton CC's committee. "People's experiences and their firm belief in supporting people with their mental wellbeing... it was a really good conversation to start the ball rolling."
Start the Conversation aimed to encourage clubs to take a similar first step and raise the topic of mental wellbeing at club committee meetings, with a number of clubs also participating in our Start the Conversation Weekend social media campaign.
In January 2026, the Devon Cricket Foundation will be hosting a clubs seminar, with the topic of mental wellbeing at clubs and a reflection of the Start the Conversation campaign set to be on the agenda.
Further information on our clubs seminar will follow in due course.
